Apple recently unveiled its next instalment of default firmware for iDevices, the iOS 8 in the WWDC conference. While we are eagerly waiting for the public release of the same, we were able to gather little insights from our developer friends who have been able to get their hands on the beta version of iOS 8, and hence test some of its proclaimed features. What looks like a jailbroken version of iOS 7.1.1, Apple has finally taken steps to incorporate a lot of jailbreak tweaks in its iOS 8 operating system, and thus making a lot of jailbreak tweaks redundant.   • New Programming Language

The biggest move of Apple with its iOS 8 is the transformation of Objective C programming language responsible for all major developments in the field of iOS, into a new coding technology- Swift code. Swift as the name suggests is more flexible, and user friendly when it comes to development. Starting from iOS 8, all iOS oriented developments, including apps and features will be based on Swift technology.

  • Hands-Free Siri

The tweak lets you control Siri wireleslly by speaking a hot keyword. Surprisingly, Apple has integrated a similar feature in its iOS 8 for driving enhancements. Known as QuickType, Apple has finally introduced predictive typing on their iDevices. The technology is so smooth that you Apple claims that your iDevice would already be knowing what you want to type or say. Well, that sounds amazing. Apart from QuickType, you can also download and install third party keyboard on your iOS 8 powered iDevice, the feature which wasn’t available on it earlier.

Apple has been focussing more on health oriented applications lately, and Healthkit is one good example that has been included within the iOS 8 as native iOS application. What it does is pretty simple. HealthKit will be able to collect and draw inference from a list of health related applications available under the App Store. It’s much more like Passbook application, with aggregated data under one common hood.

The messages application in iOS 7 was pretty much advanced in itself, and iOS 8 promises more control for users on their iDevices. You can create groups, name the threads, add or delete members, mute a thread, and now share location oriented information too from within the Messages application on iOS 8. Apart from this, you can add Do Not Disturb functionality to individual threads as well.

Apple has introduced a family sharing mechanism in iOS 8 for iDevices where up to 6 family members can share purchases made through a common credit card on each of the 6 iDevices owned by them. Apart from this feature, parents will get to know when any of their children make purchases through their credit cards as a notification on their iDevices, thus offering more control over iTunes purchases.

  • Time Lapse Videos

Have you seen time lapse videos of sun setting, or rising, or a flower unfolding itself? Well, iOS 8 brings time lapse photography at the doorstep of iDevice users. Now you can shoot time lapse videos where the device will capture a picture every 30 seconds, and make a time lapse video out of it. This is one good way to look at things unfolding with time.

  • Photo Search

Now, you can actually search for pictures, the way you search for a particular track from within the Music application. Simply head over to the Photos application, and swipe up to launch the search bar where you can actually search for individual photographs. This is one useful functionality in case you are used to having a lot of pictures on your iDevice.

  • New Photo Editor Tool

The Photos application also brings a series of editing modes for you, and thus make tweaks like Rendarya redundant. You can select any picture from the Photos application, and choose to edit using the built in functionality on your iDevice. The crop tool can now differentiate horizontal lines, and hence decide crop area as scanner for certain images.

These were the top 10 features of iOS 8 which will be available to users starting next month. While iOS 7 has been a good operating system, iOS 8 promises to light up things a little more.
