Not all of us have the privilege of owning our very own scanners. And even if we do, turning every page, putting the documents under the lid, scanning them, saving them – it’s a lot of work, and takes up a huge amount of time! How about if there’s a smart scanner attached to our very own mobile devices? This is exactly what happens with the Camscanner Android app. The name actually implies “Camera Scanner" – scanning with your Android device’s camera!

The Camscanner Android app not only helps you scan documents, but you also get to convert these documents to PDF. Imagine how much of money you are going to save, which you earlier used to spend on copying. The images are extremely high quality; unless you have a faulty camera or a shaky hand!

You get started with the welcoming screen of the app. The designing is pretty sleek, and the effectiveness of the app is something to be taken notice of. The developers, IntSig Information Co. Ltd. have claimed that the app can be used to scan anything – right from newspaper prints, tenders, notices, whiteboard drawings, pages from a book, business cards, coupons – you get the general idea, don’t you? They actually live up to their promise, and deliver all that with so much gusto!

All you need to do is to take a picture of the document you want a scanned copy of. I scanned the cover of a book of mine, in low-light. Once the image is clicked, you are asked to crop the portion of the image which you originally need. Once that is done, Camscanner starts its work by first detecting the edges automatically and then fine-tuning the picture with a little bit of zooming and crosshair cursors.

Once the app gets done with the image, you can notice that even the wrinkles which the paper or cover originally had, get removed. The file size also gets reduced since all those extra pixels get done away with. You get to choose contrast options for yourself. You can give a name to your scanned file. You can even convert it directly to a single-page PDF, or add it to other similar images to create whole PDF documents.

The Camscanner android app allows you to access documents from anywhere on your device. You can share these files through Bluetooth, wifi or email, print them as and when you require and even save them as notes and memos. The app also comes with its own Cloud Storage options, in case you create a profile of your own. Premium users also get 200MB of free cloud storage space to save their scanned documents. For others, the app offers the provision of integrating the app with other cloud services like Dropbox and Google Docs.
