Have you been staying in Mumbai for your entire life but are yet to unravel its many mysteries? Or are you new to this “city of dreams” and would like a personalized tour guide that would sit comfortably in the pocket of your jeans? Look no further than the “Mumbai Guide”, an app developed by Interprone LLC, to relish what this city has to offer.
Opening this app brings up on the screen the entire map of Mumbai, with various places marked with numbers ranging from one to forty six. These are the designated places of interest according to the makers of the app, and include every place of tourist attraction. Enabling the location services further pinpoints your current location on the very same map, thus providing you with an insightful judgment on your position with respect to your desired destination.
Just like the default map service on the Windows platform, this map too can be resized with a simple two-finger pinch. Tapping the image of an eye on the bottom of your screen gives you something the app developers have branded as “aerial view”, which converts the map into a satellite view of the same location.
The third button on the bottom of the screen provides you with an alphabetically arranged list of all the forty six places of interest in Mumbai; starting from the Asiatic Society of Bombay all the way to Zaveri Bazaar. Tapping on the place of interest of your choice opens a new page dedicated solely to that pill very spot which includes its address, a brief summary of that structure, its Wikipedia link and half a dozen of different images.
For an app that extensively uses the map feature it is worth noting that absolutely no lag was observed during its use. Also commendable is the encyclopedic range of places this app lists, which also includes little known localities such as Chor Bazaar, Dhobi Ghat and Fashion Street. Kudos to the developers for their exhaustive research into the bylanes of the city!
What would have set this app a class apart was if it was integrated with a navigation app that would give precise directions to the location of your choice; a feature currently missing in this version of Mumbai Guide. Let us hope that future updates to this app will contain this functionality as well.
The fourth and final button of this app redirects you to a page from where you can directly download guides of other cities as well, all developed by Interprone LLC itself. Mumbai and Delhi are the only two Indian cities featured here and it is indeed a well-deserved compliment to us.
The remaining options are about rating and reviewing the app, and it also includes the choice to suggest a new place of interest to the developers via email. That being said, the app delivers what it promises to its users and provides an all-inclusive guide to the breathtaking city of Mumbai.Download from Windows App Store
